Margate, Florida
Margate is a city in Broward County, Florida. It was incorporated in 1961. The census conducted in 2010 reported that the city had a population of 53,284. In 1996, the City established a Community Redevelopment Agency. The agency works very hard to make the city more beautiful. Its agenda includes landscape projects and street improvements as well as refurbishment projects for some of the older buildings within the city proper. Part of the greater goal of the Redevelopment Agency is to increase the level of private investment in the city in order to stimulate the real estate market in the city proper. The impact of the redevelopment has been very positive for the city’s tax base. By adding to the tax base, the agency has set a cycle in motion which they hope will continue to support more redevelopment in the city. The Margate Community Redevelopment Agency sponsors The Margate Green Market which is an open air market place. It focuses on food, baked goods, produce, plants and handcrafted items, all presented in a lively setting. Also, the Agency recently completed beautification at the intersection of Margate Boulevard and 58th Avenue which included a new “roundabout” along with new lighting, new sidewalks, crosswalks as well drainage improvements. A clock tower was installed in the center of the roundabout. The Coconut Creek Parkway Streetscape Project is set to begin at the time of this writing and will focus on median landscaping along coconut Creek Parkway between U.S. 441 and Banks Road. The entire project will be funded by the Margate Community Redevelopment Agency. It will include the installation of new video signal detection devices, median work, irrigation work, new decorative sidewalks and new welcome signs. The city of Margate is also home to The Northwest Medical Center Hospital, several golf courses, a library and a senior center.
