This unfortunate incident followed a similar incident that occurred on Saturday, June 6. A bicyclist was flown to Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola after crashing during a morning ride. The 55-year-old man was part of a cycling club that was touring Scenic Highway 98. The man crashed and apparently struck his head on a curb.
Bicycling is a great recreational activity, especially in such scenic locales as Fort Lauderdale, Miami, and South Florida in general. However, it is important to be as alert and attentive as possible when cycling because it is an activity that is often in close proximity to automobile traffic. When riding a bike, make sure you are aware of your surroundings and that you signal any sudden moves you may make that could potentially surprise nearby drivers.
