September 17, 2015Man Injured in Auto Accident Involving Tractor-Trailer in Weston
September 21, 2015A man who was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Fort Lauderdale has tragically died.
Fort Lauderdale police claim the man, James Ortibez, was riding his bicycle at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 12, when a car struck him, causing him to fall off of the bicycle and into the street. The driver of the vehicle then fled the scene.
Mr. Ortibez was then taken to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Police are continuing their investigation and are actively searching for the vehicle they suspect was involved in this incident.
Bicycling is a great recreational activity and means of transportation, especially in areas like Fort Lauderdale. However, it is critical that when riding a bicycle you obey all the “Bicycle Regulations” (please see Florida Statute §316.2065) that you remain as alert and attentive as possible because it is also an activity that is inherently dangerous due to its frequent proximity to automobile traffic. When riding a bike, especially at night, be aware of your surroundings and that you signal any movements to nearby traffic so that drivers close by will not be surprised.
