A teenager lost his life and two people were seriously injured when they were hit by a car in North Miami early on September 15.
Henry Touissaint, a student of North Miami Senior High School, died when he was hit by a Chevrolet Impala sedan when he was crossing the street at Northeast 135th Street and Seventh Avenue in North Miami.
Two sisters, also students of North Miami Senior High School, were injured in the incident. Police say that one sister sustained very serious injuries and was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
The intersection where this crash happened is blocks away from several other school, as well, however the incident occurred during hours where the area is not an active school zone.
The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police throughout their initial investigation. The driver has not been charged at this time, and police have not mentioned if speed was a factor. While the cause of this incident is not yet known, a life lost is always a tragedy, especially the life of a teenager.
As a pedestrian, it is important to be as alert and attentive as possible especially when walking in close proximity to high-traffic roads and intersections. As drivers, we cannot be too alert when traveling around pedestrians, as well.
