A South Florida man suspected of shooting and killing his girlfriend then proceeded to flee the scene in the victim’s vehicle causing multiple car accidents on I-95 in Palm Beach County before being shot and killed by responding police.
The man is alleged to have fatally shot his girlfriend around 9:30 a.m. on February 7 at a shopping plaza in Lake Worth and took her car in an attempt to get away. Minutes later, police received numerous calls reporting that the man was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-95 on the stretch between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale.
The assailant’s erratic driving resulted in numerous car accidents on I-95 leaving a number of drivers and passengers with serious injuries. Several other head-on collisions were narrowly avoided as the man careened towards oncoming traffic, preventing what would have been certain fatalities.
The suspect, who was allegedly involved in another shooting the night before, was ultimately neutralized when a responding Florida Highway Patrolman shot and killed him on the busy Florida interstate.
Clearly this is type of tragedy is a rare occurrence in South Florida, however, I-95 and other roadways throughout Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach frequently pose other significant dangers. South Florida drivers are injured in car accidents on a daily basis, which is a trend that will not likely change in the near future.
