Distracted Driving Accidents – Should Florida Strengthen its Texting-While-Driving Laws?
February 28, 2017Tired Drivers May Pose Problems for Uber and Danger for Passengers
February 28, 2017Motorcycle accidents are all too common throughout areas in South Florida like Weston, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It goes without saying that the weather and scenery of South Florida lend to the appeal of riding a motorcycle on our local roadways, but because motorcycles leave riders and their passengers so vulnerable, when they are involved in collisions with other vehicles it often leads to serious injury or death.
The state of Florida requires those operating most personal vehicles to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP or no-fault) insurance, which will pay a certain portion of medical bills for injuries sustained by drivers and passengers involved in car accidents. Motorcycles, however, are not required to have PIP coverage, leaving riders even more vulnerable, not only to injury, but to potential financial hardship, as well.
While PIP is not required for motorcycles, some insurance companies still offer the coverage, as well as medical payment coverage (Medpay) to motorcycle owners, but usually at an increased rate.
If you, or someone you know, has been involved in a motorcycle accident, it is imperative that they consult with a skillful attorney experienced in South Florida motorcycle accident cases. Dealing with the insurance company can prove to be an arduous and confusing process, especially when your insurance company’s interests may not necessarily align with the interests of a rider injured in a motorcycle accident.
