February 1, 2016A woman died after a police officer-involved automobile accident in Pembroke Pines on January 27, 2016. The accident occurred just after 2 a.m. at the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Northwest 114th Avenue.
Witnesses claimed that the woman, Jessica Lee Bonilla, of Miami Lakes, allegedly ran a red light causing the devastating accident. Rescue crews rushed the injured officer, Olayemi Okegbola, of the Pembroke Pines Police Department, to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was listed as stable.
Officer Okegbola is a nine year veteran of the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Investigators are still looking into the incident.
While operating a vehicle, it is always important to not only adhere to posted speed limits, but also to observe prevailing traffic conditions and road conditions. Many accidents are avoidable, and are needlessly caused by speeding, following too closely, or quite simply, a lack of paying attention.
