Florida Golf Cart Accident Turns Deadly
May 4, 2017Florida Leads Nation in Motorcycle Fatalities
May 8, 2017A Miami Gardens family was just awarded $33.8 million in a medical malpractice case against the Jessie Trice Community Health Center in Miami, after the obstetrician was found to have made crucial mistakes during a delivery which left the newborn with severe permanent injuries.
The trial court found that during the final stages of labor, the doctor ordered nurses to restart a drug to strengthen contractions, he failed to perform a C-section, and walked away from the delivery room for long periods of time, including one time to step out for an eight-minute phone call with his stockbroker.
By the time the baby was finally delivered, he was blue in the face and his limbs appeared to be limp. A medical team was brought in to revive the infant, who by that time had sustained severe brain damage from the lack of oxygen.
The Miami-based obstetrician attempted to shift the blame to the mother, alleging that she didn’t push hard enough during delivery, and also attempted to falsify the mother’s medical record to make it appear that she had refused a C-section.
Ultimately, the grieving mother would learn that this Miami doctor had been accused of similar incidents before, including the delivery of two babies that were permanently brain damaged and a third who was disabled for life, all of which occurred at the Jessie Trice Center in Miami.
