Weston Car Accident Attorney Speaks Out On Cell Phone Use While Driving
July 25, 2013South Florida (Parkland) Chinese Drywall Victims May Finally See Relief
July 25, 2013Several news sources, including the Associated Press, the Doral Herald, as well as WSVN TV, have reported that a section of a parking garage being constructed on the campus of Miami-Dade College came down Wednesday, October 10, 2012, killing one person, trapping several workers as well as shaking surrounding structures. There were reports from Fire Rescue that while they were not sure how many workers were trapped, rescue workers could still hear the calls of help from those trapped inside the collapsed multi-storied parking garage. There also are reports showing several victims being treated at the scene. Apparently no students were known to be in the structure as of yet.
This event was immediately reminiscent of the “sudden” structural collapse that recently occurred to the parking garage structure which was intended to be demolished to make way for the new Broward County Courthouse, on 6th Street, in Fort Lauderdale Florida; where fortunately no one was reported injured or killed.
Tragically, it is also reminiscent of a collapse of a portion of a Miami-Dade County Resource Recovery Facility located at 6990 Northwest 97th Avenue, Miami, Florida which occurred on November 21, 1997, on the “Baghouse”; injuring at least 7 workers including, this law firm’s client and her deceased husband, the victim of a wrongful death, who was trapped under a piece of that collapsed structure.
Of course, our hopes and prayers go out to the victims and their families of today’s unfortunate structure collapse. And while we have no way at this time of knowing what the cause of the collapse of the parking garage might have been, it is a sad reminder of structural collapse tragedies that have occurred in our South Florida community.
